Learning to See - Youth Program

Learning to See is designed to make fine art come alive for children and adolescents. This 8-week program focuses on significant master artists living in Ventura County. Each week, a different artist is featured in a short slide presentation. The relevance of the artist’s life and work is woven into the subjects the students are studying in school. The students then have a hands-on experience by creating their own work of art in the media being featured.

Learning To See is taught by local artists. These teachers have been chosen because of their commitment and passion for art, as well as their desire to share that excitement with the youth in our community. They will provide complete cross-curricular lesson plans, all necessary art supplies, and a slide presentation.*

The artists being presented in the 8-week residency work in a variety of media, including ceramics, painting, sculpture and photography. Learning To See is an extension of Focus on the Masters, a non-profit organization developed to teach people about great artists and to highlight the positive contributions these artists have made to our society.

The Learning To See Youth Outreach Program emphasizes hard work, determination, commitment and passion; qualities needed to succeed in any endeavor.

*If possible, please have a slide projector and a screen or white wall available.
