Cool/Warm Color Study
By John (8th Grade Student)

Funding
The cost for the 8-week residency is $600. This includes fees, instructor and supplies. If the school or facility is unable to pay for the program in its entirety, the materials fee can be waived in certain circumstances. Some matching scholarships are available to a school that can pay for one program, which runs before or after the donated program.

We understand the fiscal constraints of public education and will help as much as possible. Additional support is encouraged through private donations, which we are happy to solicit with input from the school.

Learning To See After School Programs will introduce our youth-at-risk to a world beyond the immediately available cultural climate of television, gangs and drugs. Through Learning To See students discover that artists in our community are neighbors and that skills acquired in arts programs transfer directly to other goals in life. Students who apply themselves to their own art projects gain respect for themselves and others as they realize the rewards of creativity and concentrated endeavor. Art anchors them to a greater caring for their community and to a greater acceptance of cultural diversity.

Learning to See is being offered as an in-the-classroom 8-week residency or as an after-school program at schools, religious and community centers throughout Ventura County. Adult programs, based on the Learning to See model, will soon be available through Art & The Creative Spirit, Focus on the Masters seniors enrichment program.

For more information, or to arrange a residency in your neighborhood,
call (805) 653-2501 or fill out our form and fax it to: (805) 653-2347.

A healthy snack will be offered at the beginning of each after-school session.

Studies show that students who participate in fine art programs:

• Raise their grades

• Achieve higher S.A.T. scores

• Reduce delinquent behavior

• Develop greater self-esteem

• Engage in more community activism

Pictured at left is an example of student artwork. The exercise is a blind contour drawing and a cool/warm color study by a 8th grade student named John.
