About The Tamima Al-Awar Memorial Scholarship: The goal of the Tamima Al-Awar Memorial Scholarship is to award annual scholarships to Ventura County high school seniors for advanced visual art studies and to provide the students with a professional exhibition opportunity. The panel’s recommendations will be forwarded to the Ventura County Arts Council for final approval. Scholarships will be presented in full at the Ventura County Government Center Opening Reception & Awards Ceremony, March 21, 2014 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

About Tamima Al-Awar: Tamima was a graduate of The Thacher School where she discovered her passion for painting. She had planned to pursue a degree in Fine Arts at The Academy of Art College in San Francisco starting in January 2003. At the time of her passing she was enrolled in a painting course at Santa Barbara City College and painted actively at her home studio.
